A test for myself
The project is to build an engaging and impactful visual brand campaign that promotes tourism in a chosen area and target audience. It is to showcase what I learned after a six months Bootcamp course.
The campaign idea
A thousand years ago, when it was still in Song Dynasty, Shanghai was merely a small fishing village. After the first opium war in 1842, Shanghai was opened to trade as treaty parts as part of the agreement. It quickly became the largest and most prosperous city in East Asia in the 1930s. It was called "the city that never sleeps." Shanghai is still considered the wealthiest city in mainland China these days.
I chose Shanghai for the project because it is a city where the east mixes with the west, traditional meets the modern. More importantly, it is my hometown.
After researching and analyzing people's decisions in going to a country with a completely different cultural background, I realized that even though people are emotionally challenging themselves to step out of their comfort zone and embrace the culture shock. Nevertheless, they do not want to be overwhelmed. Every time people find something that reminds them of home, it would encourage them to explore the city. It is about discovering familiar things in an unfamiliar environment. Thus, I came up with the campaign idea "An Unexpected Journey in Shanghai."
